President Bola Tinubu has eulogised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the completion of the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge and a raft of other infrastructure projects, saying the developments are a testament to Lagos State’s resolve to tackle the mounting pressures of urban expansion head-on.
The President, represented at the inauguration of the projects in Alausa, Ikeja on Wednesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, described the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge as far more than a road, saying it symbolises expanded access to opportunity in a megacity where the freedom to move is inseparable from the ability to prosper.
Reading the President’s remarks, Akpabio quoted Tinubu as saying: “When traffic improves, productivity also improves. When time is saved, businesses grow. When access is made easier, lives also get better.”
The Senate President, who doubles as Chairman of the National Assembly, added that the projects carried a firm governmental message: “We will not be overwhelmed by the challenges of growth that we face in Lagos. Instead, we will solve those challenges and overcome them.”
In a separate goodwill message delivered at the event, President Tinubu accepted with characteristic humility the honour of having the newly commissioned administrative complex named after him, but was quick to situate the gesture within a broader institutional context.
“This achievement is about more than one man. It is about a system that is working. It is about a public service that continues to deliver the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians, because Lagos is home to all Nigerians,” the President stated.
Tinubu equally described the complex which hosts a modern land administration and geographic information system as a governance infrastructure for the digital age, insisting that data-driven administration has become indispensable to national development.
“We live in a world where data drives development, where transparency builds trust, and where efficient systems attract investment. A modern land administration system is not optional it is essential. It reduces uncertainty, strengthens planning, and unlocks economic value. This is how serious societies grow,” he said.
The President used the occasion to express appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Deputy Governor, members of the State Executive Council, and the Lagos State House of Assembly for the honour conferred on him.
