Fuel Hike: Gov Abiodun Approves Weekly Day Off, ₦10,000 Allowance for Workers |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants in the state as part of measures to ease the impact of rising fuel prices.

The policy, which will run for three months starting from April 2026, was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya.

According to Onasanya, the intervention is aimed at cushioning the effects of the recent increase in fuel prices and the resulting rise in transportation costs and general cost of living.

“Towards providing succour to the teeming workforce of Ogun State in light of the hike in the pump price of fuel in the country and its attendant impact on the cost of transportation and general standard of living, Gov Dapo Abiodun has graciously approved one day off duty in a week for workers in the state,” he said.

He added that the measure would be complemented by a ₦10,000 special transport allowance to be paid monthly within the three-month period.

The Head of Service noted that while the initiative is expected to provide relief and boost worker productivity, certain categories of workers would be exempted from the weekly day-off arrangement. These include medical personnel, judicial officers, teachers, security personnel, and heads of departments. However, they will still benefit from the transport allowance.

Onasanya further explained that accounting officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies would determine suitable days off for eligible workers in order to maintain uninterrupted service delivery.

He commended the governor for what he described as a timely intervention and urged civil servants to reciprocate the gesture with improved dedication and efficiency in their duties.
