Afrobeats superstar Davido has been appointed as Head of Youth Mobilisation for the re-election campaign of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, announced the development on Tuesday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, expressing enthusiasm about taking on a more active political role in his uncle’s campaign structure.
“I have been appointed by the Governor of Osun State… as Head Youth Mobilisation of the Campaign Council,” he wrote, while also voicing confidence in a successful re-election bid for the governor.
The appointment comes amid increasing political activities in Osun State as preparations intensify for the August 8, 2026 governorship election, where Adeleke is seeking a second term in office.
Davido, a nephew to the governor, has long been a visible supporter of Adeleke’s political journey, frequently leveraging his platform to mobilise support, particularly among young voters.
His latest role further cements his growing involvement in the state’s political landscape. In 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a position aimed at boosting investment and development in the state’s sports sector.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that Davido’s appointment as Youth Mobilisation Head could significantly enhance outreach to younger demographics, given his strong influence and large fanbase across Nigeria and the diaspora.
With campaigns expected to gather momentum in the coming months, political parties are already strategizing to secure voter support ahead of the polls.
