A dramatic twist has emerged in the build-up to the 2027 Lagos State governorship election, as Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially withdrawn from the race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision comes less than 24 hours after Jandor purchased the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms reportedly worth ₦50 million, signaling what many had interpreted as a strong commitment to contest.
Jandor’s abrupt withdrawal has sent shockwaves through Lagos’ political landscape, particularly as it follows his recent declaration of intent to run in the 2027 election. In earlier remarks, he had maintained that party leaders were at liberty to support any candidate of their choosing.
While no official reason has been released, political observers point to possible internal party dynamics. Speculation is rife that pressure from the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), ongoing consensus negotiations, or strategic directives linked to Bola Ahmed Tinubu may have played a role in the decision.
With Jandor stepping aside, attention is shifting to other potential contender within the APC. Obafemi Hamzat, the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, is increasingly being viewed as a leading figure should he formally declare his candidacy.
More updates to follow.
