Rasmus Højlund has officially announced his departure from Manchester United, describing his exit from Old Trafford as an emotional moment after fulfilling his childhood dream of playing for the club.
The Danish striker, who joined United from Atalanta in August 2023, said he is now fully focused on his new chapter with Napoli after feeling embraced by the Italian club’s supporters over the past year.
“I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United,” Højlund said. “That feels weird, because for the past year I already feel like a Napoli player. The way you fans supported me, made me feel like home and let me find my confidence again is something I’m so grateful for.”
The 23-year-old admitted that leaving United carries strong emotions, having achieved a lifelong ambition by representing the Premier League giants at Old Trafford.
“To say goodbye to Manchester United is something that feels emotional too,” he added. “My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey.”
Højlund also reflected on his recent goal, calling it the beginning of a fresh and confident chapter in his career as he prepares for life in Naples.
“So the goal today symbolizes a new confident start, in which I will give everything for the time ahead to Napoli, and a thank you to all the fans, players and staff of Manchester United who made the dream I had as a kid come true,” he said. “It’s time for new dreams, so let’s chase them.”
