Manchester United have reached a broad agreement with Michael Carrick to become the club’s permanent head coach following weeks of internal discussions.
Earlier on Friday, Lagos Eye News reported that negotiations were progressing positively, with all parties working to finalise the finer details of Carrick’s contract, alongside agreements for members of his backroom staff.
Sources close to the club indicate that a full agreement could be completed before Manchester United’s final home fixture of the season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The club’s leadership team, including director of football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada, are understood to be fully supportive of Carrick’s appointment after his impressive run in charge.
During his 15 matches as interim boss, Carrick guided United to Champions League qualification while recording notable victories against Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
The former Manchester United midfielder has reportedly been the leading candidate for the position for several weeks. Club executives are said to be impressed not only by his tactical performances and results on the pitch, but also by his relationship with the players, calm handling of the media, and deep understanding of the club’s history and expectations.
Manchester United supporters are now awaiting official confirmation as Carrick edges closer to taking charge permanently at Old Trafford.
