Road, Water Projects Reducing Insecurity in FCT Rural Communities – Wike |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that ongoing road and water infrastructure projects in satellite towns and rural communities are contributing significantly to the reduction of insecurity and improved access to farmlands across the territory.

Speaking during a live media chat in Abuja on Monday, Wike said the FCT Administration deliberately prioritized neglected rural communities after consultations with traditional rulers, youths, women, and other stakeholders who identified poor road infrastructure as a major challenge to security and development.

According to the minister, residents informed the administration that security agencies often struggled to respond effectively to criminal activities because many rural roads were inaccessible.

He explained that the administration engaged directly with local communities to understand their needs and subsequently embarked on the construction of roads nominated by the residents themselves.

Wike noted that the intervention has produced positive outcomes, particularly in Kuje Area Council, where completed road projects have enhanced security and enabled farmers to access their farmlands more easily.

The minister emphasized that the current administration is committed to implementing policies that deliver measurable results rather than making unfulfilled promises.

He stated that the impact of governance is becoming more visible in rural communities through the provision of critical infrastructure.

Wike also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu will commission several projects in satellite towns as part of activities marking the administration’s anniversary.

Among the projects scheduled for commissioning are water schemes in Kuje, Orozo, Gwagwalada and Dobi, aimed at improving access to potable water in underserved communities.

The minister stressed that development efforts must extend beyond the city centre to include satellite towns and rural settlements.

He revealed that the water projects were executed by China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) and are ready for commissioning, adding that two area councils have already benefited from the intervention between 2025 and 2026.

Wike further highlighted several road projects completed or nearing completion across the FCT, including the A2-Pai Road, the Bwari-Kubwa corridor, roads in Dei-Dei, and sections of the A3 Highway.

According to him, the Bwari-Kubwa Road is expected to be completed this year, while work is progressing on the Abuja Airport corridor and the Zuba-Airport link road to ease traffic congestion within the capital.

The minister also announced plans to review the Abuja Master Plan, disclosing that discussions with the original Japanese designers are scheduled for July.

He said the review had become necessary to align the capital city’s development with present-day realities and evolving urban planning needs.

Wike called on residents and the media to engage constructively with government by highlighting areas requiring attention and offering practical suggestions.

He maintained that constructive criticism remains essential to effective governance and responsive service delivery.

The minister further disclosed that the FCT Administration is constructing additional hostel accommodation at the Nigerian Law School as part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
