The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa, has called on councillors and other elected representatives to intensify grassroots engagement as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) rolls out its electronic membership registration exercise.
Speaking on Wednesday at a meeting with constituents and party leaders at his constituency office in Agege, Mr Obasa stressed the importance of broad-based participation in the registration process, describing it as central to the party’s future electoral strength.
He praised party supporters for what he described as their “loyalty and enthusiasm”, noting that sustained involvement at community level was critical to the APC’s credibility and long-term cohesion.
According to the Speaker, the e-registration exercise is intended to make the party more inclusive and better organised ahead of forthcoming elections.
He urged those who had not yet registered to do so and encouraged party members to mobilise others within their communities.
Mr Obasa also issued a clear directive to councillors and other office holders to maintain regular contact with Community Development Associations (CDAs), landlords’ and tenants’ groups, religious leaders, market associations and trade organisations. He said these bodies remained essential links between government and local communities.
“We must not limit engagement to election periods,” he said, arguing that continuous dialogue helps to build trust, identify problems early and ensure that public concerns are reflected in governance.
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing constituency engagement, adding that sustained grassroots participation would be key to building a more united and resilient APC.
