ISWAP Admits Growing Operational Difficulties as Foreign Fighter Routes Shut Down |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly acknowledged mounting operational challenges, revealing through its unofficial media channels that all routes used for the “hijrah” (migration) of foreign fighters into its ranks have been effectively closed.

In a message circulated by the group, ISWAP attributed the closure of these routes to sustained military pressure, describing the operating environment as increasingly hazardous due to persistent attacks by forces it referred to as “American dogs and the apostates of Nigeria.”

Security observers view the admission as a significant indication of the intensifying counterterrorism campaign across Nigeria’s North-East region.

The reported shutdown of infiltration routes for foreign fighters suggests that ongoing military operations, strengthened border security measures, intelligence-led offensives, and enhanced regional cooperation are exerting considerable pressure on terrorist networks operating within the Lake Chad Basin.

Analysts note that the development reflects continued progress by Nigerian security forces and their regional partners in degrading terrorist capabilities, disrupting recruitment and logistics networks, and limiting the cross-border movement of fighters. The inability of ISWAP to facilitate the safe movement of foreign recruits into its areas of operation is being seen as evidence of the growing effectiveness of counterterrorism efforts in the region.

While security challenges persist, the group’s reported admission is regarded as another indicator that sustained military and intelligence operations are constraining terrorist activities and reducing operational freedom for insurgent elements across the North-East.
