The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled Ms. Damilola Sonayon-James as its Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Sonayon-James will contest alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on the APC platform in the forthcoming poll.
Announcing the development, the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said the selection followed extensive consultations and a rigorous screening process that assessed competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, party loyalty, and commitment to the party’s progressive ideals.
According to Ojelabi, Sonayon-James has consistently demonstrated commitment to public service, grassroots mobilization, community development, and the advancement of women and youth across the state.
He stated that her experience in governance, policy implementation, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable development makes her well-suited for the office of Deputy Governor.
The APC chairman expressed confidence in the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket, describing it as a combination of experience, innovation, inclusiveness, and visionary leadership capable of consolidating the achievements of the current administration while advancing the developmental aspirations of Lagos residents.
A respected grassroots leader and development professional, Sonayon-James is known for her contributions to community empowerment, educational support initiatives, women development programmes, youth engagement, and social intervention projects.
The party noted that her emergence reflects the APC’s commitment to inclusive governance, gender representation, youth participation, and the continued development of Lagos State.
The APC also called on its members, supporters, and residents of the state to support the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
