Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday welcomed fresh commitments from G7 leaders to support Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russia, now entering its fifth year.
Speaking after the G7 summit in the French spa town of Evian-les-Bains, Zelenskyy praised the group’s pledge to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities amid continued Russian aerial attacks.
He also commended the leaders’ decision to increase economic pressure on Moscow through tougher sanctions targeting Russia’s oil and gas sectors, aimed at limiting funding for its military operations.
“Our global unity is truly reducing Russia’s ability to continue this insane and criminal aggression against Ukraine. I thank everyone who is helping us!” Zelenskyy said in a statement.
The G7 leaders issued a series of joint communiqués following their three-day summit, outlining agreements on major geopolitical and security issues.
In one statement, the leaders reaffirmed their united support for Ukraine, including its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as the country continues to defend itself against Russia’s invasion.
The group also agreed to intensify measures against Russia’s war economy by strengthening sanctions on key energy exports.
On international diplomacy, the G7 welcomed a preliminary peace framework reached between the United States and Iran, expressing readiness to support its implementation.
In a separate declaration, the leaders announced plans to combat organized crime and drug trafficking networks. Proposed measures include enhanced investigations to freeze and seize criminal assets, including virtual assets, in an effort to disrupt transnational criminal activities.
The summit concluded with renewed commitments to international security, economic stability, and coordinated action on global challenges.
