The vegetable garden established at the State House by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, about two years ago as part of the #EveryHomeAGarden initiative, continues to record impressive yields, reinforcing efforts to promote food security across the country.
During a routine visit to the garden for another harvest, the First Lady renewed her appeal to Nigerians to embrace home gardening as a practical step towards enhancing household food security and supporting the nation’s agricultural drive.
Displaying freshly harvested vegetables, including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin, Mrs. Tinubu described home gardening as a cost-effective way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while reducing household food expenses.
She also noted that beyond improving food security, home gardening contributes to environmental sustainability by supporting efforts to combat climate change.
As part of the harvest exercise, the First Lady shared some of the freshly harvested vegetables with members of her staff and urged Nigerians to cultivate the habit of giving and showing compassion to others.
