Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-proclaimed Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), after he failed to appear in court for his arraignment.
The warrant was issued on Tuesday following an application by the prosecution in a case filed by the Nigeria Police Force. Responding to claims by Adeyemi’s lawyer that his client stayed away from court because he feared for his life, the judge said, “The court will help him be alive.”
The case was adjourned until September 30.
Adeyemi is facing an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery and impersonation. Police accused him of forging appointment letters purportedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, using fake State House letterheads, seals and the Coat of Arms, as well as operating an illegal office at the Federal Secretariat.
The Presidency has maintained that the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council does not exist.
Despite the court proceedings, Adeyemi, during a television interview on Monday, insisted the agency is genuine. He also claimed he paid ₦400 million to secure the position of Director-General and called for an independent investigation involving the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the alleged ₦1.3 billion budget allocation to the council in the 2026 appropriation.
