‘No governor has such power’ — MC Oluomo rejects Adeleke’s suspension of NURTW operations in Osun

The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has rejected the decision of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to suspend the activities of the union across the state.

LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that Governor Adeleke had, on Thursday, directed the immediate suspension of all NURTW operations in motor parks across Osun State.

Reacting to the directive, MC Oluomo argued that the Governor does not possess the constitutional authority to suspend the operations of the union.

According to him, the NURTW is a legally registered national trade union, and its activities cannot be unilaterally suspended by a state governor.

He maintained that any issues concerning the union should be addressed through the appropriate legal and regulatory channels rather than through executive directives.

The disagreement has sparked fresh debate over the powers of state governments in relation to the operations of nationally registered labour and transport unions.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued any further response to MC Oluomo’s remarks.
