The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise the fight against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping instead of engaging in political battles with opposition parties.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party criticised the President’s recent remarks during a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he reportedly declared his readiness to “fight to the finish” politically.
The ADC argued that Nigerians elected President Tinubu to confront insecurity, not political opponents, stressing that terrorists, kidnappers and armed criminals remain the country’s real enemies.
The party referenced the recent attack on Naridon village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where at least 30 people were reportedly killed, homes razed and several residents displaced, describing the incident as another example of the country’s worsening security situation.
According to the ADC, the President has continued to respond to security challenges with statements of condemnation and sympathy rather than decisive action capable of ending the violence.
The party further alleged that while the President appears combative toward the opposition, he has failed to demonstrate the same resolve in tackling terrorism and other violent crimes across the country.
The ADC maintained that after more than three years in office, the Tinubu administration should focus on improving its security record rather than engaging in political rhetoric.
It added that elections are won through performance and governance, insisting that the President’s attention should remain on addressing insecurity and protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
