The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its crackdown on vandalism, arresting five suspected vandals and recovering stolen public infrastructure during operations across several parts of Abuja.
According to the Command, the recovered items include drainage covers, solar-powered street lights, armoured power cables and communication cables allegedly removed from public facilities.
Police said all recovered assets have been handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for immediate reinstallation to restore damaged infrastructure.
In a related development, the Command also dismantled an illegal diplomatic and government number plate syndicate, leading to the confiscation of several unauthorized number plates and the arrest of suspects linked to the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, described vandalism as a major threat to public safety and critical infrastructure, stressing that the Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks responsible for such activities.
He warned that all those involved in the vandalism chain, including individuals who purchase stolen public assets, would be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Sanusi also urged residents of the FCT to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information to strengthen security and protect public infrastructure across the territory.
