Pastor Titilayo Adewale, one of the daughters of the founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the late Pa Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, has distanced herself from a viral statement attributed to her concerning the church, its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and her father’s legacy.
In a statement on Monday, Adewale said the comments circulating on social media, which alleged that many senior RCCG pastors were unaware that her father founded the church and that she had called for greater preservation of his legacy, were false.
She stated that she neither made nor endorsed the claims, describing the publication as a deliberate misrepresentation.
According to her, the greatest honour for her late father was not the display of his image on buildings or institutions but the hope of eternal life in heaven.
She stressed that her father’s enduring legacy was the lives he impacted rather than physical structures, noting that he devoted his life to building people instead of accumulating wealth or material possessions.
Adewale recalled that her father had little interest in owning personal property, saying it was difficult to persuade him to acquire a house because he did not see material possessions as important.
She argued that it would therefore be inconsistent to suggest that he desired public recognition through buildings or institutions bearing his name.
The cleric further expressed the belief that the false reports were designed to create unnecessary controversy within the church rather than honour the memory of its founder.
She alleged that the intention of those behind the reports was to distract attention from the work of God and sow discord among members of the RCCG.
Adewale urged those responsible for spreading what she described as misinformation to stop the practice, warning them against further actions capable of causing division.
She also encouraged them to embrace repentance and seek God, describing Him as merciful.
Reaffirming her support for the church’s leadership, Adewale prayed for continued strength, wisdom, and divine guidance for Pastor Enoch Adeboye, his family, and the leadership of the RCCG.
She also wished members of the RCCG worldwide a successful annual convention, concluding her message with, “Shalom!”
