Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has left Nigeria for a vacation in Europe, with plans to undergo medical checks as part of the trip.
The governor departed the country through the Lagos airport and is expected to visit the United Kingdom and other destinations, which will be announced later.
Adeleke said the break was intended to allow him to refresh and prepare for his responsibilities in serving the people of Osun State.
“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” the governor said before his departure.
However, before leaving the country, Adeleke directed the Osun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate an emerging kingship dispute in Koka Ilase, in Obokun Local Government Area.
The directive followed reports of the appointment of another traditional ruler in the community, raising concerns over the existence of two individuals laying claim to the same traditional stool.
The governor ordered the ministry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment and review the matter in line with the state’s chieftaincy laws and the traditions governing the community.
“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight,” Adeleke said.
He also urged residents, traditional stakeholders and other parties involved in the dispute to remain calm while the government conducts its investigation.
According to the governor, traditional rulership in Osun State is governed by existing laws and customs, stressing that his administration would ensure that due process is followed.
“Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” he said.
The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the reported emergence of the second monarch and make recommendations to the government.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, signed the statement announcing the development.
