Bandits Attack Operation Burst Base in Oyo Hours Before Schools Resume |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Suspected bandits have attacked an Operation Burst security base located within a forest reserve along the Igbeti–Igboho axis in the Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, barely 24 hours before the resumption of academic activities across the state.

According to a security report citing an update from the Oorelope Local Government Command, the attackers stormed the security base between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. and opened fire on personnel stationed at the facility.

The command reportedly received a distress call over the incident and immediately mobilised its operatives, alongside personnel from other sister security agencies, to the area.

However, the attackers had reportedly fled the scene before the responding security team arrived.

Preliminary findings indicated that the armed men arrived at the base in large numbers and allegedly attempted to overrun the security post, kill the personnel and seize their weapons.

The incident has raised fresh security concerns in the area, coming just hours before schools across Oyo State are expected to reopen for the new academic session.

Security agencies have yet to officially disclose whether any personnel were killed or injured during the attack or whether any weapons were taken by the assailants.
