Germany arrests suspected Islamist over planned attack on church |LAGOS EYE NEWS

An Iraqi national has been arrested in Germany on suspicion of planning Islamist attacks on several targets, including a church, federal prosecutors said on Thursday.

The 24-year-old is believed to share the radical militant ideology propagated by Islamic State and aimed to target those he considered infidels, prosecutors in Karlsruhe said in a statement.

The man is accused of having procured a firearm and scouting out the church in the northern city of Bremen, which prosecutors believe would have been the first of several targets.

The suspect was arrested in the Barnim region in the north-eastern state of Brandenburg, just outside Berlin.

He has been placed in pre-trial detention and faces charges of attempting to form a terrorist organization, preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state as well as violating the weapons act.
