Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has urged members of the party’s 2027 Campaign Council to base their campaign on measurable achievements, policy reforms and verifiable records rather than emotions.
Hamzat made the call on Friday at the inauguration of the Lagos APC Campaign Council at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, Lagos.
The inauguration marked the formal commencement of the party’s campaign structure for the 2027 general elections, with former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, serving as Director-General.
Speaking at the event, Hamzat said the APC had tangible achievements from the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that should be presented to voters.
“It is not about emotion. It is about data. It’s about records. We must be able to tell our people what we have done, what we are doing and what we intend to do,” he said.
He cited reforms in taxation, infrastructure, agriculture and security as areas where the administrations had records to present to the electorate.
According to him, the campaign should clearly communicate the policies and projects undertaken by the APC-led governments and explain their intended impact on Nigerians.
Hamzat also highlighted the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and other infrastructure projects as examples of ongoing development, saying such projects were part of efforts aimed at strengthening economic growth and expanding opportunities.
He described Lagos as strategically important to Nigeria’s economy, noting its contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product and stressing the need for continuity in governance.
The APC candidate urged party members to take the campaign to their communities and mobilise friends, neighbours, religious groups and other stakeholders ahead of the elections.
He said the party must translate its support base into actual votes through sustained grassroots engagement.
The Lagos APC inauguration comes as the party intensifies its preparations for the 2027 elections, with its campaign structure expected to coordinate activities across communities and different levels of the party.
The Director-General of the PBAT/KOH 2027 Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, charged members to put personal grievances, disappointments and differences behind them and work as a united team.
Obanikoro said the assignment ahead required discipline, organisation, sacrifice and commitment, warning members against treating their roles as ceremonial.
He urged members to work together, communicate respectfully and ensure that every committee and member of the campaign structure remained active and accountable.
“The coming elections will shape our future political opportunities and responsibilities. That should remind us of the seriousness of the assignment and the need for everyone to give their very best,” he said.
He added that every community and concern should be taken seriously, stressing that unity should remain central to the party’s campaign.
Obanikoro had previously called on Lagos APC members to close ranks after the party’s primary contests, urging them to move from internal competition to coordinated campaigning ahead of the general elections.
Earlier, Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, charged members of the campaign council to operate with discipline, clear responsibilities and accountability.
Ojelabi said the party would adopt a decentralised grassroots strategy, deploying leaders and members across senatorial districts, local government areas, wards and polling units.
He said the strategy would be guided by the principle that “every politics is local”, with community leaders, campaigners, Community Development Association members and other grassroots stakeholders expected to participate actively.
The chairman said the party would focus particularly on its “Operation Man Your Polling Booth” strategy, aimed at ensuring effective mobilisation at polling units across Lagos.
According to Ojelabi, the party has identified thousands of polling locations across the state and wants its members to work locally to mobilise voters and ensure that votes are cast and properly accounted for.
He said the APC was targeting five million votes in Lagos from a projected seven million voters, describing coordinated grassroots mobilisation as central to achieving the target.
The inauguration brought together APC leaders and members of the campaign council as the party begins the next phase of its preparations for the 2027 general elections in Lagos State.
