Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has initiated plans for a statewide security and surveillance project aimed at strengthening the protection of residents, businesses and public facilities across the state.

The initiative, which involves a proposed partnership with Hefei Shengwen Information Technology Company Limited, was discussed at a meeting between the governor and executives of the Chinese technology firm on Monday.

The company’s delegation was led by Mr Cai Jianfei, Director of International Operations, and Mr Nemo Guo, Manager of Overseas Operations.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the proposed project will establish a state-of-the-art security and intelligence system designed to provide comprehensive security coverage across Osun State.

The system will be monitored through a central Command and Control Centre, which is expected to receive real-time information from surveillance infrastructure deployed across the state.

The proposed technology will incorporate drones, radar systems, artificial intelligence-powered cameras, robotics and Internet of Things devices to monitor activities and gather security intelligence around the clock.

The initiative will also include a Safe School Project and a decentralised mobile application that will enable residents to connect with the Command and Control Centre and report security concerns.

According to the statement, the planned surveillance network will cover schools, banks, hospitals, industries, farms, mining sites, commercial centres, bus parks and motor garages, as well as major towns and transport routes across the state.

Speaking at the meeting, Adeleke said the initiative was designed to harness emerging technologies to improve security and protect residents and businesses.

“Our plan is to create an inclusive security platform that will fully secure and protect our people. From schools, hospitals, businesses and border communities, this initiative is a strategic option,” the governor said.

He also referenced his administration’s establishment of the Osun State Security Trust Fund, describing the proposed technology-driven initiative as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

Cai Jianfei, who reportedly invited the governor for a working visit to China, said the proposed project would integrate the capacity of the state government to protect residents and businesses across Osun.

The announcement comes as the Adeleke administration outlines plans to expand the use of technology in security management across the state.

However, details regarding the project’s implementation timeline, total cost, funding arrangements and deployment schedule were not provided in the statement.
