TikTok is just hours away from a critical deadline to secure a non-Chinese owner or face a potential ban in the United States.
The popular video-sharing platform, which boasts over 170 million American users, is under threat due to a U.S. law mandating its separation from Chinese parent company ByteDance. If TikTok fails to comply, it risks being shut down nationwide.
The app previously went offline in the U.S. and was removed from app stores when the law first took effect on January 19. However, former U.S. President Donald Trump granted a 75-day extension, which expires on April 5.
Trump has stated that his administration is “very close” to finalizing a deal for TikTok’s sale, involving multiple investors.
