#AFCON: Super Eagles will still receive $500,000 pledge, says BUA chairman |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will still receive a $500,000 (£390,000) incentive despite falling short in their latest international campaign, according to BUA Group chairman AbdulSamad Rabiu.

Hosts Morocco survived a nervy night in Rabat to see off Nigeria 4-2 on penalties to reach the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Praising the Super Eagles team’s resilience and commitment, he described their performances as a source of national pride even though the final outcome did not meet expectations.

In a statement released on Thursday, he said the players “fought with their hearts” and showed courage, unity and determination throughout the tournament.

“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion and unity displayed are what truly matter,” Rabiu said. “You left everything on the pitch.”

He confirmed that the pledged sum would be honoured in recognition of the players’ hard work, dedication and the joy they brought to Nigerians during the competition.

The Super Eagles’ displays have been widely praised at home, with supporters highlighting the team’s fighting spirit and collective effort despite the disappointment of defeat.

Rabiu urged the squad to remain confident, adding that the experience gained would help fuel future success.

“Keep your heads high,” he said. “Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories.”
