…I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, says Former VP
Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Abba Atiku was formally received on Thursday evening in Abuja by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, alongside the APC National Vice Chairman (North East), Mustapha Salihu.
Following his defection, Abba Atiku announced the renaming of the political group he founded for the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation.
The group was originally established in 2022 under the name Atiku Haske Organisation.
Reacting to his son’s defection, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said the decision was personal and should not be politicised.
His words: “The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal.”
“In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect.”
“As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians. ”
“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people.”
“I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress, he said.
