Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has launched an artificial intelligence-powered teaching and learning platform aimed at modernising education across the state.
The platform, known as the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network (OgunLearn), was unveiled on Monday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.
Speaking at the event, Mr Abiodun said the digital platform would provide students with interactive learning support and lesson resources, while allowing teachers to plan lessons, access teaching materials and monitor academic performance more efficiently.
He said the initiative was designed to promote creativity, digital skills and self-paced learning, adding that it would also help to build analytical thinking and accountability among learners.
“Every child, regardless of location or background, deserves access to quality education enhanced by technology,” the governor said.
Mr Abiodun described OgunLearn as part of a broader effort to prepare young people for the demands of the modern world, noting that the state was investing in future-ready education rather than outdated models.
According to him, Ogun State is the only state in Nigeria operating a Skills Qualifications Awarding Body and an accredited digital training centre that enables learners to gain globally recognised professional certifications.
The governor highlighted several education and skills initiatives introduced by his administration, including the Ogun Skills Fund, Ogun Educash, Ogun Scholar, Ogun-Rehab, Ogun Teach and Ogun-DIPER, which he said were aimed at improving access, quality, transparency and employability.
He said exposing students to artificial intelligence and digital tools would help create a workforce capable of competing globally and attracting investment.
OgunLearn, he added, is a core element of the state’s Education Digital Transformation Agenda, under which technology is being used to strengthen institutions, empower teachers and improve learning outcomes.
Mr Abiodun also pointed to the Digital Platform for Education Revitalisation (DIPER), an integrated school management system that he said has improved transparency, efficiency and data-driven decision-making in schools.
He noted that Ogun State has emerged as a national reference point in technical and vocational education and training, and pioneered the Learner Identification System, which has since been adopted by the federal government as the Examination Learner Identification Number.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, said the platform builds on the state’s use of technology during the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure learning continued despite school closures.
The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Olalekan Ifede, described the new platform as “the future of education” and urged teachers to fully embrace its use in classrooms across the state.
