Six people have been arrested in Lagos after being caught dumping refuse at an unauthorised location during an overnight surveillance operation in the Ikotun and Igando areas.
The arrests were carried out by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team during an operation that began late on Wednesday and continued into the morning of 23 January 2026.
LAWMA officials said the suspects were questioned after their arrest but none was able to provide evidence of registration with an approved Private Sector Participant (PSP) waste operator. Investigators also said none could show that their residences had proper waste storage facilities.
The agency said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb indiscriminate waste disposal and enforce compliance with Lagos State waste management regulations.
All six suspects have been handed over to LAWMA’s legal department at the Oshodi Mobile Court, where they are expected to face further legal proceedings.
Those arrested were identified as Samson Sunday, 34; Anthony Okechukwu, 27; Onuh Esther, 25; Sola Ife, 30; Yusuf Atanda, 39; and John Itimukwa, 28.
