Residents of Pasoki village in Suntai Ward, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, have appealed to the state government for urgent intervention over what they describe as a long-standing lack of access to clean and reliable water.
The community, with an estimated population of more than 5,000 people, is largely made up of farmers and small-scale traders. Locals say the nearest source of water is more than three kilometres away, forcing women and children to make daily journeys on foot to fetch water.
Community members say the situation has taken a toll on health, education and livelihoods. According to residents, cases of water-borne diseases are common, while children often miss school due to illness or the time spent fetching water.
“Our people are suffering because water is a basic need,” said Onesimus Zechariah, who spoke on behalf of the village. “Women and children spend hours every day walking long distances just to get water that is not even safe.”
Farmers in the area also report that the lack of water has affected agricultural activities, leading to poor harvests and reduced income.
In a formal appeal dated 31 January 2026 and made available to LAGOS EYE NEWS correspondent, the community called on Governor Agbu Kefas to consider the construction of a borehole or a small water supply system to serve the village.
Residents say such a project would significantly improve public health, school attendance and economic productivity in the area.
They expressed hope that the state government would respond swiftly, noting that access to clean water would bring lasting relief to the community and improve overall living conditions in Pasoki village.
