Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has directed commissioners in the state to chair the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress committees in their respective local government areas.
Mr Bago gave the directive during an APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the Hauwa Wali Multipurpose Hall within the Government House in Minna, the state capital.
He said the decision followed the expiration of the tenure of the state APC executive committee, making it necessary to organise fresh congresses across the state.
The governor said the commissioners would be responsible for compiling comprehensive lists for their assigned local government areas and ensuring close collaboration with key stakeholders.
He stressed that the congress coordination committees must adhere to agreements reached with stakeholders in each local government area to ensure a peaceful and dispute-free process.
Mr Bago also warned commissioners against compromising the process, saying anyone found culpable of misconduct would face sanctions.
He described the APC as a disciplined party and said it would not tolerate anti-party activities or gross misconduct by members.
The APC Vice Chairman for the North Central zone, Mu’azu Bawa Rijau, said the party’s National Executive Committee had resolved that congresses at ward, local government, state, zonal and national levels would be conducted through consensus.
Mr Rijau also reaffirmed the party’s support for Governor Bago, praising his performance in office.
