The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has reaffirmed its commitment to a zoning arrangement for the allocation of elective positions ahead of its forthcoming State Congress.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued by its state secretariat and signed by the Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, following a stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday.
According to the statement, the decision followed recommendations by an Ad Hoc Zoning Committee set up by the party to ensure equitable and consensus-based distribution of positions across the 33 local government areas of the state. The committee is chaired by Fatai Ibikunle, with Afeez Bolaji Repete serving as secretary.
The party said stakeholders formally adopted the zoning recommendations at the meeting and resolved to retain the consensus model earlier deployed during the Ward and Local Government Congresses for the upcoming State Congress, in line with directives from the national leadership.
The APC commended its members for sustaining unity within the fold and urged them to maintain the momentum as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
It added that the Ibikunle-led committee has commenced work and that each local government chapter would soon be informed of the position allocated to it on the State Executive Committee.
Upon notification, stakeholders in the 33 local government areas are expected to convene meetings to nominate candidates, who will undergo mandatory screening by a special team from Abuja.
The party stressed the importance of presenting credible nominees, noting that the strength and success of the APC are anchored on the quality of its leadership.
The statement expressed confidence that the nomination and screening processes would be concluded ahead of the unveiling and inauguration of the new State Executive Committee scheduled to hold on Tuesday at the main bowl of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium.
The APC called on all stakeholders to work collectively towards ensuring a smooth, successful and widely accepted congress outcome.
