The Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Adejumoke Idowu Senbanjo, has reportedly declined to comply with the approved list of executive appointments issued by the Lagos State Government, sparking controversy within the local political structure.

Sources within the council disclosed that what was expected to be a routine administrative process has turned into a political standoff. The chairman is said to have rejected the list of Supervisory Councillors and allegedly refused to swear in the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) included in the state-approved appointments.

The list, which was reportedly approved by the state government for all councils, was expected to be implemented across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State.

However, reports indicate that Senbanjo has chosen to operate with only two supervisors the individuals she is reportedly willing to work with for now.

Officials within the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs had earlier urged council chairmen to proceed with the appointments as approved, but the Apapa chairman is alleged to have resisted the directive.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has formally warned council chairmen against altering the approved Executive Committee (EXCO) lists.

In a memo dated March 4, 2026, addressed to chairmen of the 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs, the state government expressed concern over reports that some council leaders had altered the lists approved by the Governor.

The memo, signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, described such actions as unacceptable.

According to the statement, any alteration of the approved list constitutes a breach of trust, protocol, and an affront to the Office of the Governor.

The ministry reiterated that the Executive Committee list approved by the Governor remains the only authentic version and directed all council chairmen to comply strictly with it.

“The Executive Committee (EXCO) list approved by Mr. Governor is the authentic one. Chairmen are therefore enjoined to ensure strict compliance with the list and maintain the integrity of their positions,” the memo stated.
