Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has stressed the need for stronger cooperation among the country’s security agencies to address growing security challenges.
He made the remarks while receiving the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during his first official visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The police chief said closer collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force would improve efforts to tackle internal security threats.
He praised the long-standing partnership between the two institutions, describing it as essential to achieving national security goals.
Mr Disu also thanked the army for its role in training Police Mobile Force personnel, saying the support had improved operational effectiveness in several parts of the country. He pledged continued intelligence sharing and coordination between both agencies in ongoing and future operations.
In response, Lt Gen Shaibu congratulated Mr Disu on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the army’s commitment to joint operations.
He noted that both men had previously worked together during a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Darfur, highlighting their shared experience in complex security environments.
The army chief also acknowledged the police for supporting military operations in Kogi, Kwara and Niger states, where security forces are combating banditry and kidnapping. He said such cooperation had contributed to recent operational gains.
Lt Gen Shaibu added that sustained collaboration between security agencies remains essential for achieving long-term peace and stability across Nigeria.
