Tinubu Donates Salaries to Armed Forces Welfare Fund|LAGOS EYE NEWS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of a dedicated welfare fund to support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including personnel wounded in active service and the families of fallen soldiers.

The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Sunday.

According to him, the initiative was unveiled as part of activities marking the President’s 74th birthday, with Tinubu stating that the move is aimed at recognising the sacrifices and commitment of military personnel to national security.

According to the President, the fund will provide targeted assistance to injured service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account to manage the initiative.

As part of his personal contribution, Tinubu pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the welfare scheme, underscoring his commitment to the well-being of military personnel and their families.

The President also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the fund.

He noted that further details on its operation and structure would be announced in due course.

Tinubu emphasised that the initiative reflects a national responsibility to care for those who risk their lives for the country, stressing that such support should not be viewed as charity but as a duty.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Armed Forces personnel, ensuring their service is met with sustained care, dignity, and institutional support.
