Police Detain Officer Over Alleged Extortion in Lagos|LAGOS EYE NEWS


The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest and detention of a police officer accused of extorting a motorist in Idimu area of Lagos.

The incident came to public attention after a video circulated online showing a driver alleging he was stopped by the officer despite possessing complete vehicle documents.

According to the motorist, the officer claimed there was a discrepancy in the vehicle’s registration details, insisting the car’s colour was recorded as “ash” instead of “grey.” The driver alleged that the officer threatened him with arrest before demanding a payment of ₦30,000, which was later reduced to ₦10,000.

In a statement issued following the incident, the police said the officer involved has been identified, arrested, detained, and formally queried.

The Force added that the outcome of its investigation will be made public, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct under the leadership of Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
