The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s northeastern Yobe State has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, following a unanimous resolution at a party stakeholders’ meeting in the state capital, Damaturu.
According to a statement by the Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed, the motion for endorsement was moved by former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and seconded by the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Chiroma Buba Mashio.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, who addressed the meeting, cited the benefits Yobe State had received from the federal government as justification for the endorsement, pointing to the state’s unbroken alignment with the APC since 2015.
“I call on the good people of the state to once again support the All Progressives Congress and endorse President Tinubu for another term of office,” Mr. Buni said.
The governor also used the occasion to thank residents of Yobe for their resilience during what he described as the state’s recovery period, and paid tribute to security forces who lost their lives fighting insurgency in the region.
“Your sacrifice is never in vain as we now enjoy relative peace,” he said.
Yobe State is one of several states in Nigeria’s northeast that has experienced significant insecurity due to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The endorsement comes as President Tinubu’s allies across Nigeria’s 36 states intensify efforts to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
