Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in Yobe State, neutralising at least 24 insurgents during the operation.
The statement was issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI said
the attack, which began shortly after midnight on Thursday, lasted until about 3:00 a.m. Military sources confirmed that troops under Sector 2 responded swiftly with a combination of offensive and defensive tactics, effectively containing the assault and forcing the attackers into a disorganised retreat.
During the engagement, troops inflicted significant casualties on the insurgents. A subsequent exploitation of the battlefield led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition.
Items recovered include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, three Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.
Despite the success, two soldiers were wounded in action but have since been stabilised. Additionally, one reinforcing armoured tank was damaged during the exchange, with all its tyres reportedly blown out.
Military authorities stated that follow-up operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents, recover additional bodies, and retrieve equipment along escape routes marked by blood trails and abandoned medical supplies.
The military described the operation as a demonstration of the troops’ resilience, combat readiness, and firepower, reiterating its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements and restoring lasting security across the North East region.
