A member of the National Youth Service Corps (National Youth Service Corps), Abdulsamad Jamiu, has been confirmed dead following a security incident involving troops of the Guards Brigade in Abuja.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, at Shagari Estate in Dei-Dei, within the Federal Capital Territory. According to a statement from the Guards Brigade Headquarters, troops on routine night patrol responded to a distress call reporting an armed robbery attack in the area.
Upon arrival, the soldiers reportedly came under gunfire from fleeing suspects, leading to a brief exchange. During the confrontation, Jamiu was caught in the crossfire and sustained fatal injuries.
Military authorities described the situation as “fluid and highly volatile,” noting that troops were attempting to repel the attackers and protect residents at the time of the incident.
The Commander of the Guards Brigade, along with officers and personnel, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the NYSC, and others affected by the tragedy. The statement emphasized solidarity with those grieving the loss.
The Brigade has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting, pledging transparency and accountability once findings are concluded.
Jamiu’s remains have been handed over to civil authorities and deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Abuja and stated that operational procedures would be reviewed to enhance civilian protection during security responses.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to maintain peace and order in the area.
