President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally entered the race for a second term, signaling a major development in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
The president’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms under the All Progressives Congress (APC) were obtained on Monday at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
The process was carried out on his behalf by James Abiodun Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Faleke completed the purchase after paying the stipulated fees, formally placing Tinubu in contention for the party’s presidential ticket and effectively ending months of speculation over his re-election bid.
In a move seen as reinforcing political cohesion within Lagos’ APC structure, Faleke also obtained nomination forms for several key figures. These include Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State; Idiat Adebule, representing Lagos West Senatorial District; and Faleke himself, who is seeking re-election to the House of Representatives.
Addressing journalists after the exercise, Faleke reiterated the president’s commitment to his “Renewed Hope” agenda, while describing the coordinated action as a demonstration of loyalty and shared vision among party stakeholders.
“We are here to pick up the forms for our leader, President Bola Tinubu, and for our colleagues in Lagos who have shown an unwavering commitment to the progress of this nation,” he said.
