A disturbing incident has been reported from Keonjhar district, where a man allegedly exhumed his late sister’s grave and carried her skeletal remains to a bank in an attempt to prove she was dead.
According to reports, the man, identified as Jeetu Munda, dug up the grave of his elder sister, Kalra Munda, and brought her remains to the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank.
Kalra Munda had died on January 26, 2026. Jeetu Munda had reportedly been trying to withdraw ₹20,000 from her bank account but was repeatedly asked by bank officials to present the account holder in person.
Despite informing them of her death, he claimed his explanations were not accepted.
Frustrated and reportedly unaware of the legal procedures required for next-of-kin claims, the man allegedly resorted to the extreme step of exhuming her remains as proof.
Police described the incident as a tragic outcome of poor communication and lack of proper guidance, highlighting how gaps in awareness and support systems can lead individuals to take drastic actions.
