The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has cleared Pastor Jerry Eze, founder of Streams of Joy International, of any involvement in money laundering, revealing that the Commission conducted a six-month investigation into the cleric and found no evidence of financial crime.
Olukoyede made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja while delivering a speech at the Business Grant Award Ceremony organised by the Jerry Eze Foundation.
“I want to let Nigerians know that EFCC is not just about investigating and prosecuting fraudsters; it is also about appreciating and commending Nigerians who are not involved in any form of economic and financial crimes. I commended Pastor Jerry Eze when our investigations showed that he was not involved in money laundering,” the EFCC boss stated.
The anti-graft chief used the occasion to emphasise that the Commission places equal priority on publicly vindicating upright Nigerians as it does on prosecuting offenders, describing the practice as central to its broader anti-corruption mandate.
Olukoyede also issued a stern warning to religious leaders across the country, cautioning them against corrupt practices and urging that integrity remain the defining value of adherents of every faith.
Speaking on the Foundation’s support for 240 small-scale business owners through grants of $3,000 each, the EFCC chairman described the gesture as a powerful statement of impact and nation-building, calling on Nigerians to consistently strive to transform the lives of those around them.
He further commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the release of N100 billion from the Commission’s Recovery Account as seed capital for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation.
Olukoyede added that the EFCC was currently developing a Cyber Crime Research Centre aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with information technology skills to channel their talents toward socially beneficial ends.
