The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has allegedly ordered the eviction of personnel of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) from the council secretariat in Ajara, with their office reportedly sealed.
A video circulating online showed Hunpe directing the sealing of the LNSC office within the council premises during what appeared to be an ongoing confrontation with personnel of the agency.
In the footage, the chairman was heard insisting that he remains non-partisan and had instructed everyone working with him to maintain neutrality during the current political season.
“All Neighborhood Watch people should go out and look for their own place where they can use their power,” Hunpe said in the video.
Speaking further, he defended the action by citing security concerns amid ongoing political activities.
“We are in an electioneering period. I am in charge and the security of the local government is very very important. I cannot close my eyes and see somebody destroy what I am doing,” he stated.
The development comes amid allegations by some personnel that the action may be linked to claims that the Commanding Officer, Zannu Samson T., supported a different aspirant during the recently concluded APC House of Representatives election.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps regarding the incident.
