The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
According to the Minister, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who will join the global Islamic community in observing the sacred festival.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo conveyed the Federal Government’s felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and in the Diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a significant religious festival that embodies the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
He urged Nigerians to use the holiday period for prayers and reflection, seeking divine guidance and blessings for the nation as it continues efforts to achieve peace, security, and economic prosperity.
The Minister also called on citizens to embrace the spirit of brotherhood, national unity, and peaceful coexistence during and after the festivities.
The Federal Government wished all Muslim faithful a peaceful, blessed, and joyous Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
