Some Nigerians repatriated from Libya on Sunday have narrated harrowing experiences of hardship and insecurity they allegedly endured while trying to survive in the North African country.
The returnees claimed that armed men attacked them on several occasions, dispossessing them of cash, mobile phones, and other valuables during their stay.
According to the victims, living conditions in Libya became increasingly difficult as they grappled with insecurity, lack of support, and limited opportunities to secure meaningful employment.
Several of the repatriated Nigerians said the loss of their belongings left them stranded and vulnerable, forcing them into desperate situations before arrangements were eventually made for their return to Nigeria.
The latest testimonies have renewed concerns about the risks faced by irregular migrants who travel through North Africa in search of better economic opportunities abroad.
Authorities and migration experts have repeatedly warned about the dangers associated with such journeys, including exploitation, violence, and human rights abuses.
