The Cross River State Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed a recent Court of Appeal judgment which it says reaffirmed the suspension of several party officials, including A.K. Ajibade (SAN) and Samuel Anyanwu.
In a statement issued in Calabar and signed by the Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee, Barr. Tim Ogar Ekawu, the party described the judgment as a significant victory for the rule of law, internal party democracy, and adherence to the PDP constitution.
According to the committee, the appellate court’s decision upheld earlier rulings that validated the suspension of Ajibade, Anyanwu, and other affected officials. The committee noted that the judgment reinforced the authority of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and confirmed the legality of disciplinary measures taken against the suspended members.
The statement further asserted that the ruling had effectively invalidated any claims to leadership positions by the affected individuals, maintaining that they no longer possess the authority to represent the party in any official capacity.
“The judiciary has spoken clearly, leaving no room for ambiguity,” the statement read, adding that the judgment marks the end of what it described as factional disputes within the party.
The Cross River PDP also expressed support for the 13-member Interim National Working Committee (INWC) led by Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), describing the court’s decision as a triumph for party institutions and constitutional order.
The committee called on party members, stakeholders, and supporters across the country to recognize and work with the leadership headed by Dr. Turaki. It also appealed to aggrieved members to respect the court’s ruling and embrace reconciliation in the interest of party unity.
The statement said the party’s attention would now be focused on strengthening its structures and preparing for the 2027 general elections.
