Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday declared that the Accord Party would participate in the August 15 governorship election, vowing to secure a second term in office while reaffirming his administration’s “unshaken and total” support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Addressing thousands of party leaders, members, and supporters on Tuesday at a rally held at Freedom Park in Osogbo, Adeleke said all lawful measures were being taken to protect the party’s right to contest the election and ensure that votes cast by citizens would count.
“Our party remains a duly registered political party in this country. Accord will be on the ballot, our votes will count, and by God’s grace we shall be victorious,” the governor declared to an enthusiastic crowd.
Adeleke also took aim at what he described as ongoing irregularities in local government administration, commending elected council chairmen and councillors for their patience during the protracted crisis.
He called on the Commissioner of Police to withdraw protection allegedly being provided to individuals occupying council secretariats illegally, and accused the United Bank for Africa (UBA) of collaborating with court-sacked APC council chairmen, demanding accountability over local government funds.
The governor welcomed endorsements from a broad coalition of associations and groups, as well as hgh-profile defections into the Accord Party, which he attributed to his administration’s performance since assuming office in 2022.
He acknowledged support from labour unions, pensioners, artisans, cooperative societies, religious organisations, market associations, farmers, women groups, youth organisations, and student bodies, promising equal opportunities for all new members.
Reviewing his administration’s scorecard, Adeleke cited improvements across education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, water supply, digital economy development, and fiscal transparency.
Among the achievements highlighted were the improvement of Osun State’s ranking in the National Examinations Council (NECO) performance index from 33rd position in 2022 to 7th position in 2024 and 2025; winning the national Primary Health Care Challenge in both 2024 and 2025, earning $500,000 in prize money on each occasion; and the state’s advancement in access to clean drinking water from 14th position in 2022 to 4th position in 2025.
The governor also said the state had reduced its debt profile by over 40 percent, according to figures from the Debt Management Office, and achieved a 100 percent score in BudgIT’s Fiscal Transparency Recognition for 2025.
Seeking a renewed mandate, Adeleke unveiled an updated five-point agenda to guide a second term, focusing on youth, women and workers’ welfare; infrastructure development and economic growth; agro-industrial expansion; affordable healthcare and education; and improving the business environment to create jobs.
The governor concluded by urging supporters to intensify voter mobilisation across the state while stressing the need for peaceful participation in the electoral process.
“We reject violence and declare our readiness to protect and defend our rights and our people,” he said.
