The Federal Government has unveiled plans to deploy 10,000 electric tricycles across Nigeria starting in August 2026 as part of efforts to promote cleaner transportation and improve mobility nationwide.
Vice President Kashim Shettima stated this during a meeting with members of the Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 group, stating that the initiative will begin through the North East Development Commission before being extended to other parts of the country.
According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the expansion of the programme through the regional development commissions to support sustainable transportation, job creation, and economic growth.
Shettima said the government was also working on an integrated transport system that will connect roads, railways, seaports, airports, and inland waterways to enhance the movement of goods and services across the country.
The initiative is expected to boost green mobility, create employment opportunities, reduce transportation costs, and support Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy solutions.
