Manchester United are reportedly close to appointing Spanish coach Eva Olid as the club’s new women’s head coach following the departure of Marc Skinner, according to The Telegraph.
Skinner left the club by mutual consent after five years in charge, with reports suggesting frustrations over the club’s limited investment in the women’s team contributed to his exit.
United are now said to be embarking on a new project focused on developing home-grown young talent, with Olid emerging as the preferred candidate due to her strong track record in youth development.
The 40-year-old previously worked with the Houston Dynamo youth academy before joining Scottish side Hearts in 2021. During her time at the club, she transformed Hearts from a struggling team into Scottish champions and guided them to qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Olid, however, departed Hearts after the club declined to increase investment needed to strengthen the squad for European competition. She maintained that she did not wish to remain if the project could not progress further.
If appointed, Olid is expected to work with a limited transfer budget at Manchester United but will reportedly seek to reinforce the squad with the addition of a winger and a centre-back before the transfer window closes.
She is also expected to have just four weeks to prepare the team ahead of the start of the new Women’s Super League season.
