Footballer Sadio Mané has visited the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, to discuss his SM10 Agro Project, which focuses on mango production, sorting, and processing to combat Senegal’s high post-harvest fruit losses.
The project, valued at about $19.5 million, was launched in Mané’s hometown of Bambali in the Sédhiou region of southern Senegal. Its processing units are expected to be fully solar-powered, with projections of over 1,000 direct jobs for locals.
The initiative includes a 500-hectare mango plantation, fruit-processing factories and an agricultural college designed to provide education and skills development for young people and women.
About 78,000 mango trees are expected to be planted, with the first harvest projected in three years.
Mané said the project was driven by his desire to create meaningful opportunities for people in his home region.
“I want the young people and women of my region to have real opportunities for education.”
The SM10 Agro project adds to Mané’s growing involvement in community development and economic initiatives in Bambali and other parts of Senegal.
