The management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has directed strict enforcement of the institution’s dress code, warning students against indecent dressing on campus.
The directive comes as the ongoing second-semester examinations have been described as successful so far.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the management, invigilators and examination hall supervisors were directed not to allow students who violate the institution’s dress code into examination halls.
The management said the measure was aimed at curbing what it described as growing impunity over dress-code violations and stressed that the enforcement would apply across the entire campus.
It also urged members of staff to support the implementation of the directive by refusing to attend to students who are improperly dressed.
The institution recalled a Board of Studies decision contained in an Internal Memorandum dated January 25, 2021, with reference number POLY/PER.50, issued by the Registrar to all members of staff.
According to the memorandum, staff members are not expected to attend to students who are indecently dressed, while the directive also applies to students seeking access to examination halls.
Management consequently warned invigilators and hall supervisors to enforce the dress code during the examinations.
The institution listed the following as forms of indecent dressing:
wearing crazy jeans, Hair colouring with unnatural colours, Sagging of trousers, Wearing of earrings by male students, Open display of tattoos, Wearing of tight-fitting jeans, Wearing of bathroom slippers, Dreadlocks for male students, Wearing of spaghetti gowns or dresses, Wearing of short skirts above the knees, Wearing of ankle chains, Hairstyles with inscriptions, Hair extensions in colours such as blue, green, white, yellow, red and purple, or combinations of the colours, Wearing of armless blouses by female students or armless shirts by male students.
Management said compliance with the dress code remains mandatory for all students and urged them to adhere to the institution’s regulations to avoid sanctions.
