The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has recovered another stolen vehicle during a routine patrol in Lagos, highlighting what it describes as growing success in tackling vehicle-related crimes.
The vehicle, a Toyota Sienna with registration number LSD438GK, was stopped at about 17:11 local time on Saturday by officers from the Isolo Unit Command during an enforcement operation.
According to the FRSC, the driver was unable to provide valid vehicle documents and the car was impounded for a licence violation.
Subsequent checks revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen. The driver had also been declared wanted, officials said.
On Monday, the suspect was handed over in handcuffs to the FRSC by officers from the Ajao Division of the Nigeria Police Force for further action.
The FRSC said the recovery underscored the importance of routine patrols and digital verification systems in combating car theft.
In a statement, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the officers involved and reiterated the agency’s commitment to removing criminal elements from Nigeria’s roads.
The agency also pointed to the role of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), a digital database used to verify and track vehicle information nationwide. It said the system has improved inter-agency collaboration and helped curb vehicle theft and identity manipulation.
Motorists have been urged to ensure their vehicle documentation is up to date and to cooperate with officials during routine checks.
